A SHORT HISTORY OF THE PIANO
Sun June 29th 7:30pm
Tickets: $15 advance/$20 at the door
The piano has seen many changes in it’s 300 year history, its physical form and playing technique constantly evolving to meet the demands of composers and performers. The incredible story of Western music’s most dominant instrument continues as piano master Daniel Weiser presents the next installment of his AmiciMusic series “A Short History of the Piano”.
Part Four of the informative and entertaining musical series looks at the piano and its music in the mid-19th century, as the Romantic sensibility in music reached full flower. Composers like Frederic Chopin, Felix Mendelssohn and Robert and Clara Schumann explored new pianistic colors and pedal effects, greatly expanding the expressive range of the instrument and creating new idioms. Works by those composers will be on the program along with stories and anecdotes that highlight the lives and contributions of these piano visionaries.
