The online Urban Dictionary defines salsa shark as “A term coined by Randal in the movie “Clerks”. A salsa shark is created when one swims a tortilla chip point up in some salsa”. However, here in Asheville Salsa Shark was created when some of WNC’s finest musicians immersed themselves in the sounds of classic Latin dance music. Salsa Shark takes the stage at the White Horse Black Mountain on Friday, April 24 at 8 p.m. with a full band performance of great instrumental Afro-Cuban jazz and salsa, including three new compositions (a meringue, a cha-cha and a mambo) by Warren Wilson College music faculty member Warren Gaughan.

Following a recent enthusiastically received performance at Southern Appalachian Brewery by a stripped-down incarnation of the band, the group decided to up their game with additional horns and percussion for the White Horse gig.

 The lineup includes
 Jason DeCristofaro on vibes,
Tyler Kittle on tenor sax,
 Jamie Warren on trombone,
guitarist Jonathan Pearlman, '
pianist Warren Gaughan,
Kevin Kehrberg on bass,
Brian Palmieri on drums, and
percussionists Imhotep and Isaac Wells
