Sounds from around the world will converge at the White Horse Black Mountain . when Kat Epple and Nathan Dyke perform their original ethnic fusion compositions. Drawing inspiration from many indigenous cultures, the duo weaves memorable soundscapes that evoke distant times and places within a contemporary framework.
Kat Epple has travelled globally, performing, absorbing musical styles and collecting world flutes. The Emmy and Peabody Award-winning composer/ flutist incorporates those sounds in her own works, and shares with audiences the cultural traditions behind the instruments. In addition to extensive film and TV soundtrack work, she has recorded over thirty CDs, both solo and in collaboration with other musicians, including a recent release with Dykes entitled “Elemental Circuitry”.
Asheville-based multi-instrumentalist Nathan Dyke has immersed himself in indigenous music from around the world. In his performances with Epple he features Australian didgeridoo, world percussion and the African ngoni harp. He has a special passion for exploring the healing properties of sound energies and their role in native ceremonial life.
