Sometimes the weekend is just too long to wait for a live music fix. Fortunately. theWhite Horse Black Mountain has a solution ion the form of its weekly WednesdayJazz series. Established by pianist Dr. Bill Bares, it spotlights the finest players from the Asheville area jazz community. On Wednesday, September 27 at 7:30 p.m.Jason Moore and Mike Holstein, a tenor sax and guitar duo, will play the downtown Black Mountain venue. The inspired pairing of these two creative forces is a good example of why White Horse Wednesday Jazz nights have become a draw for music lovers.
Moore and Holstein have played in numerous groups in WNC and beyond, and have worked together extensively in various ensembles, including REACH, a jazz band with pop sensibilities. Both musicians are composers and educators with a passion for bringing original music to audiences. The duo format leaves plenty of space for spontaneous interaction between two gifted players.
Mike Holstein is in great demand, both as a guitarist and bassist, in large part because of his ability to think outside the box in multiple genres. As jazz pianist and frequent collaborator Mike Gerhardt observes: “There are two kinds of musicians: those who play music and those who make music. Mike Holstein makes music… Mike has his own voice and any chance to hear him should never be missed.”
