This program features the fabulous diva, Jennifer Smith, who returns to Asheville after a couple years of doing musical shows on the road. Winner of the inaugural Blue Ridge Talent Search, Ms. Smith has an incredible vocal range and the ability to move seamlessly from classical to Broadway to pop music.  Accompanying Ms Smith will be Dr Daniel Weiser on piano.

About Jennifer Smith
Jennifer Smith, a native of Traverse City, Michigan, graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Vocal Performance from DePauw University School of Music in 2008 where she studied with Dr. Stanley Irwin. Jennifer received many wonderful experiences, honors, and memories at DePauw. She placed twice at the Indiana NATS competition, was the only freshman to make it to the finals of the Concerto competition in 2005, performed leading roles in both the theatre and opera productions, worked with renowned 21st century composer Jake Heggie in 2007, and sang with the DePauw Symphony Orchestra for Mozart’s Mass in C minor in 2006 and the 2008 Concerto Competition . Jennifer placed first at the Regional NATS Competition in 2008 where she was also awarded the Jessye Norman Award for Most Promising Undergraduate and upon graduation, was awarded with the Fitzpatrick Opera Award for her excellence in the opera program.
Her notable show credits include Pam Johnston in Half Stitched, Laura Mayfield in The Confession, Rosalinda in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Meredith in Bat Boy the Musical, Mother God in Children of Eden, and Blondie in P.D.Q. Bachs Abduction of Figaro. Other show credits include Joanne in Godspell and Mother Superior in Nunsense, both performed with Miracle Productions Theatre Company of Traverse City.

Currently, Jennifer works as a leading actress with Blue Gate Musicals, performing the role of Pam Johnston in thier original production of Half Stitched the Musical, a new musical comedy based on the novel by Wanda E. Brunstetter. Jennifer was a part of the original cast of Half Stitched, which premiered Fall 2012 at the Blue Gate Theater in Shipshewana, Indiana and is now playing in venues located in Ohio and Pennsylvania. She started at Blue Gate Musicals in the summer of 2012 in Shipshewana, Indiana where she played the role of Laura Mayfield in Blue Gate's production of The Confession, a musical drama based on the Lancaster series by Beverly Lewis.

About Daniel WeiserDaniel is the co-founder and Artistic Director of AmiciMusic. He is also co-founder of the Upper Valley Duo was a founding member of the Adirondack Ensemble. He has a Doctorate in Piano/Chamber Music from the Peabody Conservatory, where he studied with Samuel Sanders and Robert MacDonald and won the Richard Franko Goldman prize for outstanding contribution to musical and education life.

He has performed on many great stages, including the Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall, the National Gallery of Art in D.C., and on the Dame Myra Hess Concert Series in Chicago. He has also concertized around the world, including Israel, Thailand, Holland, and France
and was the 1996 U.S. Artistic Ambassador Abroad, for which he performed on an eleven-country tour of the Middle East and Asia.

AmiciMusic is a  non-profit chamber music organization based in Asheville, NC, founded by pianist and Artistic Director Daniel Weiser. It is dedicated to performing chamber music throughout the Western North Carolina region in intimate venues such as private homes and non-traditional spaces, including bars, libraries, Churches, retirement homes, and more.

AmiciMusic, meaning “music among friends,” seeks to break down barriers between performers and audience through brief discussions of each composer on their programs and by promoting a relaxed and informal atmosphere at concerts in order to encourage new concert-goers to enjoy the energy of the performances and the spirit of community and camaraderie.
