"It is difficult to describe the appeal and popularity which surrounds the Brandenburg Concertos of Johann Sebastian Bach. Of the six works which comprise the entire set, no two are alike in their instrumentation....... When we talk about the Brandenburg Concertos, we are actually talking of six uniquely diverse concertos, each a masterpiece in its own right."
--- Benjamin Chee
Among the best-loved examples from Bach's wide-ranging legacy are undoubtedly the Brandenburg Concertos. They also provide a marvelous way to get your feet wet with Bach: they epitomize much of what makes him such a towering figure yet are immensely enjoyable and easy to approach on first hearing.

About Brandenburg Concerto No. 5
The harpsichord is given special prominence in this concerto, being elevated from its usual role to serve the supportive capacity, as well as being the unifying timbre throughout the work (the harpsichord is always present) and - most importantly - it accepts a virtuosic position as a featured soloist. This may be the first time that the harpsichord was treated as a soloist. The concerto is set in a typical fast-slow-fast arrangement. The opening allegro is the longest among all movements of the six Brandenburgs.
