Simone Bernhard brings to her jazz interpretations the insight and emotive expression gained from her years of training and experience in the fields of orchestral conducting and choral music. She has appeared with numerous world-class orchestras and ensembles, from big bands and small jazz combos to performances with some of this century’s musical legends, including Dave Brubeck and Phillip Glass. Simone presents the Great American Songbook (from Tin Pan Alley hits of the roaring 20’s to the bossa nova beat of the swinging 60’s) with vocal finesse and an instinctive harmonic comprehension rarely found in performers today. Simone is the Artistic Director of Cantaria, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Asheville. When she is not singing or conducting, she’s busy making hats and headpieces for her millinery business, Chapeaux by Simone.
