JOE MEDWICK AND FRIENDS RETURN FOR
‘RAMBLE ON THE MOUNTAIN’ SHOW AUG. 16

Member of Levon Helm’s ‘Midnight Ramble’ Again Leads All-Star Band, Woodstock/Muscle Shoals Sound at White Horse Black Mountain

White Horse Black Mountain has added a new monthly series to its programming calendar with Ramble on the Mountain, a show performed by drummer/vocalist Joe Medwick, a former member of Levon Helm’s legendary Midnight Ramble who returns with an All-Star band and that distinctive Woodstock/Muscle Shoals sound.

Medwick’s Ramble on the Mountain first shared Americana music influenced by The Band and Helm’s famous informal musical gatherings at Levon Helm Studios at White Horse Black Mountain on July 18.  The show drew rousing ovations.

Tickets for the 8 p.m. concert are priced at $10 in advance and $12 the day of the event.  Doors will open at 7:30 p.m.

Medwick, a native of Watertown, N.Y., began his music career as a teenager before logging more than 20 years of helping his friends sell and market records.  Joe returned to performing in the early ’90’s with the help of guitar great and now best friend, Albert Lee (Eric Clapton, Emmylou Harris).

He has played with Helm, Merle Saunders, Derek Trucks, The Neville Brothers, The McGarrigle Sisters, The Chieftains, Ry Cooder, Willie Dixon and others.

After many stops and starts from Los Angeles to Woodstock, to Austin and back to LA, Joe has finished his Memphis to Montreal sessions at Johnny Lee Schell’s Ultratone Studios in Studio City, Calif.  The album features handpicked original songs, as well as selected covers by Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Dan Penn and more.  The album is dedicated to Joe’s too-soon-gone friends Levon Helm, Tim Drummond, Lonnie Mack and his late brother Peter.  Guest artists on the CD including Albert Lee (guitar), Johnny Lee Schell (slide guitar, vocals), Hutch Hutchinson (bass) and Tony Braunagel (drums).  Memphis to Montreal has drawn praise throughout the music world:

“This is not a good record, this is a great record!,”Russ Solomon, founder of Tower Records

“It’s stunning just how strong this album is!” - Bill Bentley (Warner Brothers Records, Vanguard Records).

Joining Medwick (vocals and drums) is an all-star band for the Aug. 16 show including bass player Michael Hynes and multi-instrumentalist Michael Corwin, and many special guests.

Medwick has been featured in Rolling Stone, New York Times, Los Angeles

Times, U.S. News & World Report, Billboard, Time Magazine, Der Spiegel among others and on MTV, ABC Good Morning America, ABC “Nightline,” CBS Evening News, NBC Today Show, BBC, CNN, FNN, WOR, WPIX, PBS, Entertainment Tonight and Showbiz Today.

Born in the North Country border town of Watertown NY, just 33 miles from the Canadian border, Joe was touched by music at the earliest age. “I swear I remember my Mom playing piano when she was pregnant with me, especially that left hand... That’s probably why I ended up being a drummer and later singing Nat King Cole and Ray Charles and all the great American Songbook standards next to her on that piano bench, I became a soul singer!”

After many stops and starts from LA to Woodstock, to Austin and back to LA, Joe has wrapped up his Memphis To Montreal sessions at Johnny Lee Schell’s Ultratone Studios in Studio City, after starting the project in Austin and Woodstock. Memphis To Montreal features handpicked original songs, as well as selected covers by Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Dan Penn and more. Memphis To Montreal is dedicated to Joe’s too soon gone friends LEVON HELM, TIM DRUMMOND, LONNIE MACK and his late brother PETER.
